North FaceHow cool are these logs?! When we stayed in Kelowna, we kept seeing lots of places like this with tons of floating logs in nice stacks! They were such a neat site to see, that we had to pull over and check them out!
Looking back on this trip, it was one Jake and I really loved! It really fit what we both love to do, and we love winter weather! I tried to think about this trip, what made it successful in our minds and share a little bit of that with you all!
When planning a trip, it can be a little overwhelming. Ill be honest, we hardly ever plan for trips. We just make sure that we have plane flights, a rental car and hotels taken care of in advance. We do like to have a few ideas for what we are wanting to do in an area, and maybe a few food joints we want to hit up but thats about it! You do want to have some plans though because you don't want to let a day of your trip go by wasted!
Here are a few tips for traveling to have a good time:
-
Wake up everyday with a smile and choose for it to be a great day!
-
Communicate. Each new day at breakfast time we each ask each other, "What is the top thing you are wanting to do today?!" Then Jake and I each try to make sure each others top number one thing gets done that day, and anything extra is a bonus.
-
Don't have a time frame for activities. Try to enjoy everything and live in the moment! Go with the flow!
-
Enjoy down time. Take time to go on a walk, explore, sit by a fountain and eat a treat, play at a park, snuggle in your hotel room, etc. Sometimes when we get home from vacations we have been on the go so much that we are exhausted. We have found, one of the best ways for us to avoid that is to sit and enjoy a tasty down meal instead of eating on the go. That way we feel energized and ready for the next activity.
-
Let the expectations go. There have been so many times I have had all these expectations of how I wanted the day to go, and it didn't happen. And there is nothing wrong with that, its just creating the ability to enjoy the day and what comes with it. The times I dwelt on not getting everything in we had planned, or being frustrated at the traffic ended up being wasted time on my end when I could of been focusing on enjoying extra time in the car with Jake, etc.
-
Get ride of the phones and focus on who you are with. We still love to SnapChat, and social media when we are on the go, but we make sure to drop the phones and just enjoy time together without electronics.
-Before you leave on your trip,
plan a couple of ideas of places you want to visit.
-
Ask locals while you are there some of their favorite things to do in the area.
-
Be open to trying new things. Whether it be a new food joint, pulling the car over to go explore, walking around an unfamiliar place, etc.
-
Have your favorite travel apps downloaded and ready to go in advance so you can use them on your trip. We love using Expedia and Yelp. When we go to Europe, I download the Flush app that shows you were all the public restrooms are!
