Seattle Day 2: Troll Bridge, The City, Dahlia Bakery, Metro, Ivars Acres of Clams

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

Thursday was our Day 2 in Seattle! We had a fun day planned out and ready to party! We had no plans when we got to Seattle, but ended up filling our days with tons of stuff we wanted to do around the city. We ate breakfast at a place called Specialty's Cafe and Bakery that was right across from our hotel entrance. Jake and a sort of chocolate roll, I got a bacon, egg, cheese breakfast sandwich! YUM!
Then we headed over to Troll bridge. Jake really, really, really wanted to see this! We were both shocked to see how huge the troll was! We didn't realize how big he was. He really was a troll!
We didnt walk behind him because there were alot of people living behind him....
Jake and I also purchased City Passes this day! It was the best choice ever! All the places we wanted to go were on the city pass, so we got great use of it! It was $69.00 per person for a pass, with 6 places of entry tickets. Totally worth it! Each place we wanted to visit was $20 or more, so this pass was great! I would highly recommend it! You can pick up one of these passes at any place that excepts CityPass.
Jake and I's first thing we really wanted to do in Seattle was go to the Zoo. We got tons of pictures from that so that will be a separate blog post! It was to much fun!
Driving back to the city from the zoo. The zoo is only a 10 minute drive from the city and totally worth it! It was our favorite museum/exhibit/place we went to on our entire trip!
Jake and I found some fun things on our walk over to go to the Pacific Science Museum.
Always have to stop and get some treats!
Can you see how the top of the Space Needle is orange? Well the owners painted the Space Needle that orange color (really called Galaxy Gold) to celebrate 50 years the Space Needle has been open. They built the Space Needle 50 years ago for the Worlds Fair taking place in Seattle. The needle was going to be ripped down after the convention but the city member petitioned for it to stay because they liked it so much. The needle ended up being bought by some private investors who still own it today. When the needle was built, it was a guess of what apartment buildings would be like in the 20th century. Funny huh?
At the end of our walk, we came to our destination at the Pacific Science Center! Wahoo! More pictures for this adventure to come soon! We had fun seeing a laser light show, an imax movie, king tut exhibit and the Science center itself!
After our fun time at the PSC we went across the way to the Space Needle to go see a nice view. More pictures to come from that later as well :)
After a long day of walking...we were exhausted with hurt little feeties. Luckily there was a metro to take us right back to our hotel from the Space Needle. We were more than happy to pay the $2.25 fee to ride!
We saw a candy shop when we got off the Metro. Of course candy calls to stop and eat some!
Walking to dinner..down to the water front.
For dinner we went to Ivars Acres of Clams. We heard from many locals it was amazing and a must go to! Jake and I thought it was good, but bummed it was not as tastey as we thought it would be. I dont mind spending money for food when it is amazing but its a bummer when you food is $35 a plate and not super delicious. Dont get me wrong it was great! But...just not my favorite flavor mixes with my fish. I got Bacon wrapped halibut. With the fun environment and for a taste of Seattle, I would say try it out.
Jake got grilled salmon over a cucumber, mint, tomato salad. His was good, but he felt the same way.
The Restaurant itself is pretty neat though, and worth the money for dinner. Its right next to the water, and a neat environment.
After dinner, we hung out in the gift shop next door and had fun looking at things. Then we walked back to our hotel for a good nights rest!

Seattle Day 1: Red Lion Hotel, Shopping, Skillet Diner, Cupcakes and Cream, Seattle Great Wheel

Last week Jake and I had a blast in Seattle! We got to fly up on Wednesday morning and arrive in Seattle in the early evening! When we got to the airport we picked up our rental car and headed to the city to check in to our hotel!
It was such a beatufiul day out, we were both so excited! I was so excited to have a trip just with Jake. No work, all PARTY! I liked the adjusting speed limit signs. It helped move traffic nicely.
We arrived at our hotel! Can I just say, the location was AMAZING! When we go to Seattle again I want to stay here again. When I looked our window I could see Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, 2 shopping malls, Banana, JCrew, Gap, Anthro....all out my window. It was dreamy.
Tuna and Jake getting settled in...
View out our window. I Love CITYS!
After we got unpacked...of course the first thing we did was....go SHOPPING!!!! We shopped for a few hours until we went to meet up with Jakes good friend Jeff aka Ninja. Jeff and his fiance picked us at our hotel and took us down to Union Square where we went for dinner.
We ate dinner at a place called Skillet Diner. Oh it is awesome! It originally started as a food truck and is now a restaurant! The entire time we were there it was packed! Well, lots of things on the menu looked really good, so Jake and I ordered a few to many items. Caramelized grape fruit,  roasted beets, poutine, which is french fries in a house gravy, cheddar and herbs, and to top off our meal..
a fried chicken sami! It was a deep fried chicken on a fennel seed crust, pickled and charred jalapeƱo aioli, kale, potato bread. YUM! After dinner, we said our goodbyes to Jeff and Amanda so they could drive back home. Jake and I were still in party mood so we went out and about to find some dessert!
Jake and I found an ice cream shop and stopped to get some cookie sandwiches. We tried bacon and whiskey ice cream that was really good! It was strong whiskey flavor though! I got red velet cupcake ice cream. We both got salted chocolate chip cookies that were delicious! I really like the salt flavor with chocolate. It really brings out a yummy chocolate flavor.
Walking around town. Free drinks, cool water fall, funny Starbucks posters.
We saw a ferris wheel in the distance and decided to go take a ride! We found a neat statue outside the Seattle Aquarium.
Jake and Tuna love octopus's.
Getting on the Seattle Great Wheel. I guess they just recently built this ferris wheel. Night time was so fun to go on it! The crowds were not to long...that also could of been because it was 10:30 at night...but we got a long 40 minute ferris wheel ride. We really enjoyed seeing the city lights. When we went by the ferris wheel during the day the lines were so long! I was glad we went in the evening. Plus..it was beautiful and romantic ;)
Here are some pictures from the ferris wheel.
After our Seattle Great Wheel ride we headed back to our hotel room. We were loving seeing the lights outside our room, we slept with the windows open to fall asleep to the city lights. I LOVED it! This was a perfect first day in Seattle!

Monday I finally made dinner....bacon, shrimp, avocado, lime, cilantro, with southwestern dressing burritos. I know the combo sounds weird...but they ended up being delicious!
I worked on trying to make tooth fairy pillows. For some reason I wanted one. I am still working on making the ultimate pattern. I am not there yet. This was my first tooth.
Tuesday Jake and I tried a new place for dinner called Apple BBQ. It was really good. We got slow roasted pulled pork, sausage and sweet potato fries. The pork and fries were my favorite. I did feel the meal was a little overpriced, but the food was good. I think I like Wallabees better. Same kinda food there, better portion size. I did love the sweet potato fries though! That was a winner.

This has been a great week, but also emotionally draining. I got a job, said yes to do it, and didn't feel good about it, so I had to say I couldn't do it. It was weird because I really wanted the job. Recess Aide...doesnt that sound so dreamy?! I am sad I didn't feel good about it anymore. Jake and I committed to doing Japanese lessons and Korean sword fighting every week and went to tell everyone we couldn't do it anymore. I feel so horrible. I hate letting people down. I thought it was better to tell people the truth though...I am exhausted, I just want my evenings to be relaxed and not scheduled and I need a break. I hate seeing sad faces. It has been draining for me this week because I feel so bad. I think to, I like being able to do yogurtland, and out to dinner. I think I am just in a weird phase of life where all I want to do is sew, hang out with Jake and take piano lessons.
Wedesday, Jake and I took off to Washington. Wow, we had an amazing time there! We got to party till Sunday afternoon and came back home. We had a blast on our trip and took at least...a million pictures. Lots of blog posts to come from our fun adventures in seattle!

I did a lot of..wearing pjs all week. At least I felt buff :)
Tuesday, I made a bunch of new friends who were so dang cute! They also like to blog and party!
Wednesday, Jake and I got to meet up on his lunch break. We happend to both be wearing matching shoes ;)
I finally found the perfect scissors for my carpal tunnel hands and wrists. They are only 3 inches and really light! Wahoo!
This week was a big week for me on my store! I hit 200 sales! I have never been so excited and happy! (well..maybe the day I was married would count to :)

Thursday night, Jake and I had Korean Sword fighting! That was a blast! I think it would be really good for my posture.
Friday, I spent all day making treats for our Sunday School class and Relief Society. I made 120 cake pops.  Sunday was a big day for me, I sang in the choir in sacrament meeting, taught Sunday school and taught Relief Society, and had Jakes family over for dinner.  I was pooped. It was fun though :)
Saturday was a blast! Jake and I went on a hot air ballon ride, ate brunch, took a nap, did laundry, cleaned the house, and got dinner ready for Sunday. I was excited about making pazzokies!
At 9pm...Jake and I left the house, ate at Happy Sumo for dinner, went to Target and came home and I practiced my Relief Society lesson. I was a little nervous to teach because it was my first Relief Society lesson I had ever taught! I was excited though because I loved the topic I got to speak on!
 Vegas Roll, and Firecracker Roll!
Best Tuna ever! To eat that is...
I love the cute soaps we got from Target! Could not resist!
Sunday lessons, and day I was really happy how it went! It was really fun to see Jakes family and spend some time with them. I made beef stroganoff, salad and rolls and pazzookies. It all turned out great! Wahoo!
Sunday afternoon, my sister Cami sent me the cutest picture of my nephew Gavin in a bow tie I gave him! He looked so dang handsome. She said he loves his bow ties and wears one every week! So cute! I thought I would take a picture of Jake looking so handsome in his bow tie to to match Gavin :)
Jake got to do home teaching after his family left, so I decided to do something relaxing. I took a warm bubble bath and watched episodes of Wipeout on the ipad. It was so much fun! I love bubble baths and TV. They go great together :) When Jake got home, we watched movies, ate snacks and candy, played Nientedo and had a relaxing Sunday evening! What a wonderful week! I am glad to have Relief Society teaching over to! It was a great experience and I really enjoyed teaching, but glad for it to be done :)
