Anacortes 5 Hour Kayak Tour :)

Sunday, September 2, 2012

Wahoo! The day Jake has been looking forward to! And myself as well. We woke up at 6am and drove from Seattle to Anacortes which was a 90 minute drive. When we got in town, we got some breakfast and checked in with anacoreskayaktours.com

We were not planning on a kayak trip so we did not bring the right kind of clothes and shoes with us to Seattle. Jake was very concerned I would be cold, so he took me to my favorite work out clothes store and got me a jacket and pants, and took me to Nordstom to get some outdoor shoes! Jake got a cute North Face coat at Nordstrom to! I think he looks so handsome in it! I have such a sweet husband. I was warm on our trip and was so glad I had good shoes to wear!
At the boat dock. Check out this neat totem pole. I like the sailor on the bottom.
Our first wild life encounter : red medusa jelly fish. Our guide Blake was awesome and fearless. He just stuck his hand in the water and pulled out the jelly fish for us to see. We lucked out on our trip! It was just Jake and I and our guide Blake. It was so nice because as we found on our trip...Jake and I are super slow kayakers, and we enjoy looking at everything. We are doddlers, so luckly Blake was patient, and I think we all had a great time :)
In our Kayaks! Ready for our adventure!
Starfish!
Blake taught us some neat survival skills. One was, you can eat these leaves of kelp.
Another was you can eat sea urchin (uni) straight from the ocean! Kind of intense huh? Blake jumped in the freezing cold water to pull out this urchin for us to eat. I am not going to lie...I was a little scared to eat it...I just tried to picture the urchin was on top of a bed of rice and I was dipping it in soy sauce.
Eating the urchin! Guess what? I liked it! I think I just might order uni next time I eat sushi.
Our cool guide Blake.
First stop on our tour, up to a neat old lighthouse on the west side of Burrows Island!
Picking blackberries to eat!
An old duplex families used to live in that took care of the light house. I kept trying to imagine this home in its prime, and it bet is was so dang cute!
House left, light house right.
We got to go inside the old home! It was so cute! All the walls were a baby blue and a fun floor plan. I bet it was decorated so awesome and had some super neat features.
Look how thick the walls are. They dont make them like this anymore...
A slug I found outside the house. Look at the hole in it. You could look through the hole and see his insides....he must of gotten burned or something. Didn't seem to effect or bother him though.
Picture I took of the lighthouse through a window inside the house.
Walking to the lighthouse.
Looking out at the water.
Going back to our kayaks.
Goodbye cute house! Goodbye lighthouse!
Our next stop was a neat little pocket beach on Allan Island with all pebbles instead of sand. It was so fun and cozy to lay down in them! They were nice and warm from the sun. I had a blast sorting through the rocks and picking out favorites. Each rock was so smooth and perfectly tumbled. I could of sat and looked at rocks all day. I love rocks. This island is actually on sale for $14 millon. I think it would be a good investment :) How fun to have your own island! The current owner of the island is Paul Allen co-owner of Microsoft. Island not named after him.
Jake loves water. Everywhere he goes, he wants to jump in the water. Here is Jake jumping in the 48 degree ocean water! He loved it, but said it was freezing!
A dead crab..
Tuna sun bathing.
Next stop was Williamson Rocks National Wildlife Refuge.
Look, a harbor seal! We got to see several of them actually! You could see them pop up their head up out of the water and look and you, and go back under the water. We even saw several porpoises to! We were loving all the wild life around us!
Bird island.....attack of the birds.....maybe..
Mount Baker. A perfectly clear day!
We had so much fun kayaking. We were pooped after! We decided we should take some lessons on how to kayak so we can get good at it! We would for sure to do this again! Maybe next time we will even do a fun over night kayaking trip!

Seattle Day 4: Picking Berries, Ferry Ride, Wild Ginger, Chocolate cake

Saturday, September 1, 2012

Saturday started way earlier for us in Seattle. We woke up at 6am to drive to Anachortes to go Kayaking! Jake and I were both super excited to go kayaking in the ocean, but Jake especially! When we got into town, we stopped at Jack in the Box to get some breakfast! Kayaking pictures coming soon on another blog post.
On our drive home from our Kayaking adventure, we decided to take the nature root home instead of the freeway. We saw a fresh produce store and they had a big sign that said come pick your own rasberries! We pulled in to pick some berries! This was mine and Jakes first time picking berries!
The entire carton of Rasberries was less than $2.00. Amazing. We also got some blueberries, peaches and nectarines.
On our drive home we had a ferry ride! This was Tunas first ferry ride. Top picture is us waiting to get on the ferry, bottom picture is our car parked on the ferry.
We had a fun 10 minute ferry ride walking around the boat.
For dinner Jake and I really wanted to try some real Chinese food. We passed Wild Ginger everyday going down to the pier and each time we went by, it was packed! We thought we would give it a try!
Sadly.....I didn't like any of the things we got....I am not a picky eater either. I will eat pretty much anything....The items all looked great on the menu and were presented beautifully, but I did enjoy anything I ate. :(
For dessert I wanted something I knew would not let me down...so we headed to PF Changs for some take out! I got the Great Wall of Chocolate! Oh YUMMM! Yes, I ate it all!
Walking back to the hotel. Sad it was our last night in Seattle! We were having so much fun! We went back to the hotel, I took a hot bath, hung out in my robe, and ate my chocolate cake! Then got packed to leave the next day :(
Our souvenirs from the trip! We love to bye the "Goodnight" Books every time w go to a new place! They are our favorite! We are trying to collect them all! We always get books and magnets..and usually stuffed animals on our trips!
I found a picture of our rental car to. It was a cute chevy malibu. It was fun to drive! It was so nice having a car all week. We walked alot of places, but it was nice to have a car for our adventures outside of Seattle.

Seattle Argosy Boat Tours: Harbor Tour around Elliot Bay

Wow, I cant say enough how much we loved this boat ride! Argosy is one of only the boat companies in Seattle that has a live narrator to tell you about the sites you are seeing and neat stuff about the city. Our guys name was Pete and did a great job! I feel I really learned a lot on this boat ride, and got to know about Seattle better! This Harbor Tour boat ride was also part of our City Passes. The boat takes you around Elliot Bay for about an hour! We also loved getting up close and personal in the industrial shipping terminal.
Getting our seats..and of course a treat to eat on our journey! Magnum Double Caramel...one of our favorite ice cream treats! Bar far the best magnum bar...besides pistachio!
The boat starting to pull out of the dock! Here are some pictures from our boat ride adventure!
This bottom left hand picture which is hard to see is Mount Rainier...a live and someday predicted volcano!
I love this picture! I love america, city skylines, boat light, and industrial looking things...
Heading over to the shipping terminals.
See the red part of the mast on the boat to the left? I guess in the olden days, companies would paint the mast of the boat to signify what company they were with. This gave traitors options of who they wanted to work with.
Check out these stacked boxes. Each ones is the size that a semi truck carries full of goods! This ship was HUGE! I couldn't not believe how many items were on it, ready to hook up to semis!
See that little white box in the middle of this picture on the top? That is a control box for someone to sit in and move all these stacking boxes! Whoooa! I guess they have to move all the boxes off the ship each one by 60-90 seconds. These guys have to be fast and super accurate! I guess this job is super straining on the eyes so the workers can only stay in the box for 2 hours at a time! Talk about intense!
Check out this smushed box! That of must of been some serious force to crush that steel!
Pulling back up to the dock. I LOVED this boat ride! I will do it again someday! A great way to see a taste of the city and hear lots of great info!
