Jake in DC for a week!

Saturday, November 12, 2011

On monday, my cute husband left for DC for a week of work! He was so excited to show me all his pictures when he got home! Looks like he had a lot of fun eating at some good places and walking around the city when he wasn't at work! This was the view from his hotel room! He got in Monday night and got all his stuff unpacked!
This is Floppy his cute bunny he brought with him to keep him company.
For dinner he went to Ben's Chili Bowl! I have been there before and it is delicious!
Jake worked all week at the National Archives and had a great time. He got to set up some awesome camera equipment and scan some cool top secret documents.
Hoarce and Dickies big mama special! Jake said it was sooo good, and yes he ate the whole thing! Watch the Man vs. Food DC to see how good it is!
For dinner Jake ate at the hotel and got some salmon...
                                           and dessert!
The next day for breakfast he did the breakfast buffet!
That night he wandered around into china town!
Jake is very adventurous in his food choices. I have no idea what this is. It looks like octopus.
On Jakes last day, Floppy and him said goodbye to DC.
Old Post Office.
Lunch at Rodizio, it is like Tucanos.
To top off Jakes trip he went to the George Washington Masonic Memorial. He said it was really neat and next time wants to take a tour! I am glad Jake had some fun while he was away, but I am glad to have him home :)

Best Homeade Oreo Recipe EVER!

If there is one thing I know how to make and am known for it, it is deffinalty homemade oreo cookies! It is always a crowd pleaser! I get asked all the time for the recipe, and it was my Sunday Schools class special request for me to make them this week, so I though I would share how its done! I am not going to lie, I have been very secretive about sharing this recipe but thought it was time to let that go...I have tried tons of homemade oreos, and this is what I came up with, love the most and taste the best!!!
This is also SUPER SIMPLE and only takes about 30 minutes all together!
Before you start, preheat your over to 350 degrees.
Ingredients
1. Pillsbury Devils Food cake mix 1 box- 88 cents at Walmart
2. Frosting- either vanilla or cream cheese - $1.25 at Walmart
3. Two Eggs
4. 3/4 cup of vegetable or canola oil. Does not matter.
(This recipe is super easy to double to if you want to make more cookies! I would recommend not putting in all the oil at once and seeing how much you need as you go if you add more boxes of cake mix)
* Optional sprinkles or food coloring to change frosting color or decorate cookies with.
*Sometimes its also really good mixing mini chocolate chips in the batter!

Recipe makes about 25-30 small completed Oreos!
Step one: Preheat over to 350 degrees.
Step two: Put eggs, cake mix and 3/4 cup veggie oil into a mixing bowl and mix it up till the mixture becomes a thick dough ball. I always mix by hand on these cookies but I am sure a mixer would work to.
Step three: Do not grease up the pan before placing the dough on it. They will not stick at all because there is so much oil in them :) Side note...this is a mini cooking sheet, because I have a mini oven and a large pan won't fit inside the oven, so these dough balls really are small. You can put a lot more on a large cookie sheet because the cookies don't spread to much.
Step four: Roll the dough with your hands into little or large dough balls. I like to make them about 1 inch each so when they bake they become the size of a real oreo.
Step five: Place cookies in oven and set your timer for 7-8 minutes. This way they will be extra soft and delicious to eat! You can cook them longer if you want a harder cookie, but 7 minutes is perfection!
Step six: After the cookies bake, take them out of the oven and put them straight on a cookie cooling rack. This way they will not cook any more, but will firm up on the cookie rack and become ready for frosting.
Step seven: After cookies have cooled for about 10 minutes you are ready to get frosting! This would be the time to dye your frosting if you are going to make it a cute color!
Step eight: EAT AND ENJOY! These are oh soo good! I know this will sound weird, but I think they are even better after the second day. I like to place all the cookies on a plate and wrap them tight with suran wrap and then eat them the next day! They are even better! Weird I know...Well hope you enjoy! Let me know if you make them and like them, or if there is a better recipe out there for these I must try :)

Today has been a great day! I woke up bright and early to meet my cute mother in law at the Jordan River Temple.  After hanging out at the temple we split up and I headed up to Salt Lake to do some phone business at the Apple Store and some shopping!
I ate at Jasons Deli for lunch! It was delicious! I love the free ice cream cone to top off the meal! That is reason enough for me to eat there!
After I went and did some shopping! First I hit up Anthropologie, and my mother in law was there to! We both had no idea we were both going there :) So we had fun shopping! I could shop everyday all day! I LOVE it! My mom had her birthday coupon, so she let me buy some stuff on it! Thanks mom! I got two new cute shirts and two new ornaments! I am LOVING Anthropologie ornaments this year! So fun! My tree is now complete!
After, I went the Apple Store and my mom was so cute to be nice and wait with me. The store found that in fact I did have a phone that really was a bad egg and gave me a new one!
Then mom and I went to Fashion Place mall to go check out the new H&M. I was cracking up because the line to get the store wrapped around the outside of the mall! Of course we waited though, and had fun looking around! I bought a HelloKitty doll. Random right? I just love HelloKitty!
Check out these crowds! Hilarious! Only in Utah... I heard people camped out over night to go! There was a film crew and they said I was "fashion forward" so I got interviewed about the event going on.
After I headed home, and went to the Verizon store to activate my new phone and transfer contacts, but long story short, Apple didn't activate my phone for Verizon to be able to activate it, so therefore I don't have a phone right now until I can call Applecare. But I don't have a phone to use because my husband is out of town! Good thing he gets back tonight! Jake has been out of town all week in D.C for work! I am so excited to see him! This was my first time being at home with out him, but as you can tell, I had a little to much fun making Christmas crafts all week and shopping, but defiantly missed him!

Jake got home! I am so excited! Time to go hang out together and watch a fun movie! Happy 11-11-11

Snowman Ornament Tutorial

Thursday, November 10, 2011

Hi! Thanks for stopping by! This is my first tutorial! We are going to be making a snowman lightbulb today!

To make the snowman this is all you need! I got all the supplies at Walmart, and a stick from the yard!

*4 lightbulbs- $1.00 (I got the white kind so the snowman would look more vibrant)
You could also use an old lightbulb that no longer works if you want!
*Craft Bond Spray Glue- $8.00 (you can also get this at Joanns with a 40% off coupon)
*Tweed (you can use whatever you want to hang the lightbulb on the tree)
*White Glitter
*Stick from the yard, and a piece of paper to catch the glitter spills
*Puffy Paint (I used food gel, not the best idea to use food stuff for the snowman, but I didn't want to buy anything else for them. I dont recommend using food on this product though. Fabric paint, or puffy paints would work great!)

First, spray the lightbulb with the spray glue, and then douse the lightbulb in glitter. Let dry for a couple of minutes, or start to make more snowmen. Then plug in your glue gun and let it heat up!
Then tie your string to hang your ornament. You could put the string on first before you glitter the light bulb, but I wanted to do it after so it didn't get spray glue on it!
Next, break your stick to the size you want the two arms. Then glue those on with the glue gun!
Then use your beads, puffy paint and hot glue them on, or use whatever you have around to make a face and buttons for your snowman! (if you use any kind of gel, or glitter gel, make sure you give it ample time to dry!)
Then put on your carrot nose!
Make as many as you want! I would say it only takes about 7 minutes to make and complete this ornament! (Maybe a bit longer if you are doing this craft with cute kids)
Then hang your snowman and enjoy! Happy Holidays!

burlap countdown calendar!

Today I worked on making a couple more ornaments. This was a narwhal I made! I love narwhals! Did you know a narwhals unicorn horn is the same material our teeth are made off, and scientists can't figure out why narwhals have a horn? Maybe to drill through ice in the cold arctic?
Since the paper macheing was not working out....I found a great idea from younghouselove.com to spray paint and put hanging screws in the animals! It worked out great, and they actually look really cute hanging from the tree!
For dinner I made Digorno pizza and wings! It was a great! I could eat wings with every meal! Later Staceypants came over to play! She is the best! We had so much fun talking and hanging out and had another sleep over :)
Here is the finished calendar count down! Santa goes in the pockets to count down the days till he comes down the chimney! I need to go buy a bunch of king size candy bars to fill up the rest of the pockets!
Ho Ho Ho! Happy Holdiays!

deck the halls with christmas jolly!

Hi! If you are here to look at the snowman lightbulb click on the link below to find the tutorial! Thanks for stopping by!
This has been such a fun carefree week! I have been loving it! For some reason, all I could think about on Sunday was making christmas decorations, so Monday that is what I started to do! I went to tons of different stores to find all the stuff I needed!
Time to get some projects started! I started off making snow globes and made about 10 of them! I will show them when I finish making the rest of the winter wonderland!
Monday night, Stacey and I went on a date to Yogurtland! After we went back to my place and watched FastFive and had a sleep over! Stacey is the best!
Here was a funny fish ornament I made.
 and a lightbulb snowman!
Today I got to go to Del Taco and play with my friend Lizza and her girls. We all had so much fun talking and playing, we were at Del Taco for over 3 hours!
After I did some more shopping to find some random animal action figures to paper mache to make into ornaments. The ornaments were NOT turning out, so I moved onto making a christmas tree skirt!
I am so excited! This is Jake and I's first christmas tree! I am still working on making more ornaments for it! I also did christmas shopping on Monday, so I need to wrap up the presents and put them under the tree! Maybe I should wait on that till after Thanksgiving.... :)
Trying again on the ornaments. Not happening... but having fun watching tv.
So then I made stockings! BURLAP STOCKING TUTORIAL HERE!
Now time to start working on an advent calendar and trying to make some more ornaments! Wahoo!
