Hi! Thanks for stopping by! This is my first tutorial! We are going to be making a snowman lightbulb today!
*4 lightbulbs- $1.00 (I got the white kind so the snowman would look more vibrant)
You could also use an old lightbulb that no longer works if you want!
*Craft Bond Spray Glue- $8.00 (you can also get this at Joanns with a 40% off coupon)
*Tweed (you can use whatever you want to hang the lightbulb on the tree)
*White Glitter
*Stick from the yard, and a piece of paper to catch the glitter spills
*Puffy Paint (I used food gel, not the best idea to use food stuff for the snowman, but I didn't want to buy anything else for them. I dont recommend using food on this product though. Fabric paint, or puffy paints would work great!)
First, spray the lightbulb with the spray glue, and then douse the lightbulb in glitter. Let dry for a couple of minutes, or start to make more snowmen. Then plug in your glue gun and let it heat up!
Then tie your string to hang your ornament. You could put the string on first before you glitter the light bulb, but I wanted to do it after so it didn't get spray glue on it!
Next, break your stick to the size you want the two arms. Then glue those on with the glue gun! Then use your beads, puffy paint and hot glue them on, or use whatever you have around to make a face and buttons for your snowman! (if you use any kind of gel, or glitter gel, make sure you give it ample time to dry!)
Then put on your carrot nose!
Make as many as you want! I would say it only takes about 7 minutes to make and complete this ornament! (Maybe a bit longer if you are doing this craft with cute kids)
Then hang your snowman and enjoy! Happy Holidays!

ReplyDeleteGreat Idea!!! The only thing i would do different is not buy light bulbs just use the ones that are burned out!!! it's free!!!
ReplyDeletetry using fabric paints that come in the little squeeze bottles..just let it dry over night..great re-cycling idea!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your first tute, Kelsey! You did a great job...very easy to understand your instructions and the photos were self-explanitory. I plan to make some next winter with a slight difference...had to share back with you...I plan to paint the silver screwin part of the bulb a bright or black color. Then cut a circle from scrap felt in same color as paint, slightly larger than the screw in part of bulb. Cut out a circle in middle of the felt so it can be pulled around it, down to top of glass and hot glued in place. Viola! You have "made" a snowman hat, complete with brim. Just take a few minutes (at most) extra, and your snowman will have a nice warm hat.
ReplyDeleteIm just curious why you used glitter frosting rather then glitter glue wouldn't it have given you the same effect? Then you wouldn't have had to use food products for your craft. Other then that I love this idea and will be a great one to do with my kids this year.
ReplyDeleteI've made these for years and love them. I ususally use cloves painted orange and glue on for the nose. I also cut the tips off womens stretchy cheap gloves and make a hat that I glue on. Then you can use a needle thru the hat to make the hanger. Also, in the past I have put a ribbon on for a neck scarf. Just a few ideas. Have fun.
ReplyDeletemy cousin made us reindeer with lightbulbs a few years ago!!! she spray painted the bulbs gold and glued on two google eyes and used glue pens to make a mouth and pipe cleaners for the antlers and to hang it on the tree :)
ReplyDeleteThank You for sharing this idea.LOVE IT!!!! This is easy enough for my group of adults with special needs to do.Super easy and cute. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you ! It's cute !
ReplyDeleteI saw something similar at a craft festival, they had used bulbs to make personalized ornaments for children and I thought it was a fantastic way to recycle old bulbs. However, when I spoke to the woman said it is necessary to unscrew the silver tip of the bulb and remove the inner wires or component for safety. When I sat down to do that with my box of burnt out bulbs we had been collecting, it was nearly impossible, the tip doesn't simply unscrew. Thinking it was the brand I buy, I purchased another brand (in retrospect, I realize that defeated my entire purpose, but I'm like a freight train when I'm excited about an idea!). As you probably already know, the brand had nothing to do with it.
ReplyDeleteSo my question is this, is it necessary to do this? Are the bulbs a safety hazard (especially on a tree)? If so, is there a special tool or method I could use?
I appreciate your feedback! (Especially since I have a large quantity of bulbs collecting dust in my craft closet and there is still plenty of time before Christmas!)
Thank you and Happy Holidays!!
Too adorably cute, and that season is coming around again!
ReplyDeleteI love these!! I have featured it on my Top 10 DIY ornament round up on 11/28 marriedandhungryblog.blogspot.com
