Have you ever been to court? I sure havent, and it was an entire new experience for me! But my experience at court all comes in tomorrows post...today is all about what I wore to court :) Luckily Jake was able to come in the morning and drop me off at court and give his support till he had to run to work.
When I decided to go to court to fight a traffic violation I got, the first thing that came to my mind is...'what to wear'? I have never known anyone to go to court or myself in court so I had no idea what to wear! I was also concerned about court educate, how to adress the judge, when to talk or not talk, tips in general for conduct. I was shocked about how much info is on the interent about court, so if you ever have questions, many people and court sites have mapped out for you what to expect, act and wear.
After doing lots of research, I learned a few things about what happens in court and what I should wear. Here are a few tips I picked up incase you ever go to court and dont know what to wear! Most of these are general thoughts, but here it is.
1. Wear Sunday Attire
(Men: Nice slacks, hair done, button up shirt, tie) (Women: nice suit or dress)
Its sad, but I really do think its true when people talk about how first appearances mean everything! When you literally only have a few minutes in court to plea, or contest your case depending on what its for, appearance can be everything! So dress for how you want to be looked at.
Heres a link to look at some more Sunday dress court attire here. Although this article said wear solids, I felt for me I like to dress to enhance my personality, so I chose to go with darker colors, and one simple print. I still wanted to feel myself in court, and be me.
2. Dont be to flashy
I had never thought about it, but I read in an article that it talked about, if your flashy you may stand out too much and if you are pleading you dont have money...why would they believe you if you are wearing some flashy items? Dont know if this could be true or not, but its some food for thought. I think its probably good in general to not be flashy so you dont distract the judge. You want him to hear you out, but if he is focused on a million gold bracelets on your arm he may be a little distracted from what you are saying. If he is looking, hopefully he can see the sincerity in your face and eyes, vs flashy items on you.
3. Black is a good color to wear
In court the judge wears a black robe. Many say the origin of the robe and it being black comes from back when the US was starting to be established and branched off from England. I think since the judge is wearing black, it sets a good standard to wear some version of black as well. I dont really own a ton of black clothes, so I thought a little hint of teal was ok.

Jake Turns 33 and we EAT
Wednesday, February 27, 2013
On Presidents day, it also happened to be Jakes Birthday! We had so much fun with him having no work and getting to spend his bday together! Jake turned 33! So exciting! There were 2 things Jake wanted to do for his birthday. 1. go to park cafe and 2. go to the zoo :)
So first stop was The Park Cafe in downtown Salt Lake City! Oh yummy! We decided, we like all their food, but nothing beats breakfast there! Especially the french toast and park potatoes! This time Jake got chicken noodle soup with a pastrami and cheese burger, I got a blt with turkey and park potatoes...and we got french toast. Yes way to much food, and left overs, but it was so good! After we went to Park Cafe, we went to Hogle Zoo and had blast! For dinner we got to meet up with Jakes family at The Corner Bakery. I got The spinach sweet crisp salad and the Chicken Tortilla Soup! Jake got the chicken pesto sandwich. I love The Corner Bakery's baby bunt cakes and cookies to!
Jakes mom brought Jake a carrot cake to enjoy! We all sang happy bday and ate cake!
To end the evening, Jake and I watched Bacholor, went to the gym and ate again at Firehouse Subs... :) Did you know on your bday if you show your ID, Firehouse subs gives you a free sub! So kind and makes a bday really awesome!
A bday afternoon at Hogle Zoo

Last Monday, (presidents day) was also a special day in the Harris Household! It was Jakes birthday! Jake turned 33 years old! Wahoo! Both of us were so excited he had the day off work, and it landed on his birthday! Could he be any luckier?! Jake really wanted to go to the zoo for one part of his birthday, so after a fun breakfast at The Park Cafe, we headed to Hogle Zoo. The parking lot was packed...and guess what? We got rockstar parking. I guess thats plays into birthday privileges :) We were there from 12:30 to 3:30pm and it was an awesome time to be there! Animals were getting feed, and many of them were out enjoying the sun and having fun! We also got to see the cute polar bear and grizzlies! We have never seen them at the zoo before! Here are some fun pictures we got from the days adventures!
OK! This Jaguar was the neatest! He was so much fun, and a bit scary to many people around us! He was jumping up on the glass and scratching and growling! You could see his breath on the glass! The crazy thing is, the glass must be pretty thick because I couldn't hear his grow but I could see him growling quite intensely! He was so awesome! Here are some pictures we got of him and he pounced the wall several times at those by us, and even Jake and I! We felt so lucky :) What an awesome encounter! I have always wanted a wild cat of my own. Its actually on my bucket list to own one and be friends :)
My, what large teeth you have....
